Happy 10th Birthday, Project Uber! Have an update.
Howdy! It’s been 10 years since the first release of this! So what better to do than make a big ol anniversary update?
I’ll be real, this was one of my least favorite mods, its definitely one of my prettiest and had huge steps up to my previous works, but there was a ton of things wrong with it. It was far different than what I originally planned back in 2013 when it started development, and of course the difficulty was complete nonsense looking back at it. I actually did a lil playthrough of this a few months ago after not playing this for years, and despite not being on a hard difficulty, I rage quitted by level 5. With all this in mind, and the fact there was a lot of bugs, including one that completely halts the game, it was damn time I got around to properly fixing this mod.
So, 1.9! The difficulty has been significantly tweaked, it’s still tough but should be much more fair, lots of stupid ideas have been reworked (like secrets that required rocket jumping), some weapons rebalanced, and just overall I wanted to make this more fun. But there’s more, because one thing that was also intended but never was done for a reason or two: Hardy being more of his own character! Hardy was meant to be inspired by Zharkov but not exactly him, and at the time I made this class, I had no idea where to get original voices, so I went screw it and used Zharkovs voice and appearance at the time. That is now fixed, he has new voicework done by CardBoardMarty, and new sprites!
So while this is still much different than what I originally intended, its certainly a lot better in my eyes, and its a mod that deserved better. :>

BIG CHANGED: Did a big overhaul on monsters and monster placement, the mod had a giant difficulty spike at level 3 and lots of monsters and such became far more frustrating to fight, so lots of stuff has been changed to be as fun to blast through as the first two levels. Lots of monster placements redone, lots of monsters rebalanced (Some apparently instakilled you and i never even intended that), extra polish here and there, and yeah! This mod is still not easy, but it should be much more fair.

- The difficulties are also completely redone, more simplified and enemies don’t just straight up become terrywad enemies in terms of difficulty on the harder difficulties. Mostly only high tier enemies will get big changes on higher difficulties.

- Lot of secrets were tweaked too, there’s no more secrets that need rocket jumping, for example.

- Lots of extra bits and bobs here and there to make things less frustating (Such as a charge up sound for the mouth walls that shoot immensely high damaging projectiles, giving you a heads up)

ADDED: Score milestones are now visible on the hud, telling you when you’ll get an extra bomb.

CHANGED: Only score pickups (not the ones dropped, of course) count as items for the tally.

CHANGED: Readded some monster types that were removed from older versions, but tweaked to be more fun.

FIXED (Finally): The end of level script has been rewritten so it will properly work on modern versions of L/G/UZDoom

FIXED: A lot of weapon sounds from both classes got cut off by other sounds (a_playsound and a_startsound doesnt use chan_weapon by default, it seems)

- FIXED: With his plasma weapon, pressing fire while charging with altfire will reset the altfire charge up, I ended up rewriting the whole gun to fix this, the weapons were done with very outdated methods, but this weapon was really the only one that needed fixing. Others work fine so I’m not gonna bother with em for now.

FIXED: All of his items could be crushed, oops lol.

FIXED: Butter demons nerfed a bit, and isnt blocked by monster block lines

FIXED: Nerfed the Double Barrel shotgun

FIXED: Cannon O Madness while powered up would refuse to switch to another weapon with scroll wheel.

FIXED: Fixed the weapon orders, like the Cannon and Uber minigun, the two strongest weapons, wouldve come before everything else. This led to a lot of accidental deaths.

FIXED: Some HUD mistakes, some weapons didn’t show ammo icons, etc.

FIXED: Never did add the energy ammo sprites, whoops.

CHANGED: Hardy’s melee altfire no longer costs health, it now costs a type of ammo that is obtained from dropped score.

CHANGED: The final weapon, the uber minigun, no longer has autoaim.

CHANGED: Time freeze no longer mutes the sound, big thanks to Blue Shadow for the code.
KNOWN ISSUE: Sometimes the score tally doesn’t work properly, sometimes you cant kill all monsters, sometimes it seems all score isnt possible to get, and I’m not sure whats going on atm, will try to fix for next version
